NOTES LITERATURE AND ART ZINE
i learnt adobe suite skills at my foundation in 2017, and continued to use them during my time at university. i designed across a range of different media, including theatre posters, facebook banners and zines - both illustrative covers and layouts.

I was commissioned to create 3 Facebook banners advertising DJ workshops and club nights for Playtime Collective. Using a combination of hand illustration, scanning, and Adobe InDesign, I experimented with type and colour to create striking graphics that worked in nightclub and underground settings.

Theatre posters for cambridge-based drama societies
My knowledge of literature from my degree proved very useful in designing theatrical posters for drama societies. I was a member of the theatre troupe Old Vag Club, and my title was Head of Applications and Co-Designer. As such, I created the poster for Public House 3, our main mid-year show that takes verbatim accounts of sexual assault and creates an immersive physical piece.

Head designer for notes poetry and art zine, 2018-2020

As Head Designer I had a lot of opportunity to experiment with cover design. Some were hand drawn, and some were digital illustrations. Every fortnight in 2018 myself and another designer had to collate the content the editors had chosen, and produce the file for printing in 24 hours. The fast turn-around meant I became very proficient in InDesign. As the years progressed, we decided to recruit more designers to lessen the workload on those of us who were entering our final years. We conducted interviews and 'hired' 3 students to work for us, teaching them how to use Adobe Suite and encouraging them to experiment with layout.

All covers shown here are my designs. The PDF file adjacent shows experimentation in the internal layout, using the poems' meanings to create interesting designs on the page as well as the cover.

In our final term of foundation we were able to use all the skills we'd learnt to create our own self-directed project. I was interested in what made a piece of art surreal, and so began by researching graphic designers and artists associated with the Surrealist Movement. I identified some key aspects across the works, and collated them into the poster book shown in the PDF reader below.
